Movida

Uniform design for MoVida, Seminyak, Bali, Indonesia.

MoVida is a Spanish Tapas restaurant established in Melbourne, Australia. A pioneer in the culinary scene for shared plates and tapas in Melbroune, Founder and Chef Frank Camorra, took the beloved restaurant to Bali, collaborating with the Potato Head Group in opening MoVida at Katamama Hotel.

The menu was an interpretation of MoVida for the tropical climate. Light and refreshing with big flavours, utilizing Indonesia’s unique ingredients, where the team worked with local farmers to grow produces specifically for the restaurants, mixed with smallgoods imported directly from Spain.

This concept was present in the restaurant interior as well. A lot of natural light and shadow, indoors and outdoors plants, natural bamboo and wooden furniture, topped off with bright coloured hand-woven textiles, made by Balinese craftsmen.

The uniforms were a translation of that atmosphere. The idea was adopted from a fisherman’s daily wear; casual, comfortable, breezy, and functional, with a nod to the relaxing scene of the tropics. To complement the interior whilst maintaining comfort of the staff, we went with simple silhouettes made in contrast vibrant colour palette.

Fisherman wide legged pants in handwoven and indigo hand-dyed cotton with a matching belt bag with brass hardware to store necessities like captains orders and cork screws, paired with a crewneck linen bright red top, hand dyed in the specific colour just for the uniform. Then finished with a pair of tan leather sandals.

All the garments were produced locally in Bali and were developed together with the Katamama Creative Team in 2015.
