71st Omakase
Uniform design for 71st Omakase, Jakarta, Indonesia.
71st is a fine dining, gastronomy focused restaurant with an Omakase concept. The idea begun in Queens, New York, where the founder of 71st Omakase regularly invited chefs to his apartment to gather and conduct food tasting at 71st street, which is how the name was born.
The theme of their menu changes periodically, utilizing locally sourced and homegrown seasonal ingredients, creating farm to table menus. Each dishes are beautifully plated and presented in an interactive and playful way, creating a lighter, cozier approach to a fine dining experience.
Adapting this story, the uniforms are inspired by intimate gatherings in New York City. After a long day in the bustling big apple, walking down to your favourite go to spots, or simply enjoying the evening from the comfort of your own apartment.
This was the image the uniforms were designed to portray, a balance of sophistication and comfort. Contemporary gastronomy also inspired the touch of modernity in the details within the clean and sharp minimal silhouettes, while the choice of fabrication and colour palette balances between the classic and the modern. The designs are functional and versatile to complement the busy life outside the doors.
The chefs were cooking in an open kitchen, and the classic apron were elevated by making it reversible so that they can wear it according to their preference. One side features a grey suit-like textured material, and the other features the 71st dark teal. The floor team had open collar long sleeve shirts with double metal buttons details, paired with straight cut trousers, both made in grey suiting material. And the hosts were dressed in a loose fit kimono collared long sleeve dresses made in charcoal suiting.
As the restaurant grew over the years, we added a suit to complete the uniform looks. A Yukata inspired suit with high neckline and semi notched lapels, with a subtle logo embroidery on each collar. The inner & outer pockets are custom made for utility purposes, with measurements to suit the items they carry; from captains orders to a cork and screw.
All the garments were designed and produced by Atira Works in 2018 and 2019.
