S!X La Chambre

Live Installation in collaboration with S!X, Melbourne, Australia

S!X, established by Denise Sprynskyj and Peter Body in 1994, is a Melbourne based fashion design practice built in response to a perceived lack of originality and uncritical eurocentrism affecting Australian fashion design. Their work combines traditional tailoring, dyeing and fabric manipulation techniques with the practices of recycling and deconstruction.

In this collaboration, we presented a live installation at the vernissage, incorporating combined garments from both of our archive and recent collection. The showroom, La chambre de bonne, took the guests on a journey through the Paris Metro where audience members a light at stops along the way to enjoy the view.

As a part of the Melbourne Fashion Festival cultural program, the live installation took place at S!X’s showroom, in a form of an intimate gathering, instead of a runway. The models were friends and family, and the backstage – which were the showroom - were completely open so guests could see all the process and the garments lined up in their purest, natural manner. The audience gathered in the hallway and outside on the alleyway as the models walked through, mingling with each other, creating an interactive and candid presentation.
